5-day Rwanda gorillas and chimpanzees
Two great primate forests in one trip: chimpanzees in Nyungwe and mountain gorillas in the Virunga volcanoes.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1
Meet your guide at Kigali International Airport, take a short city excursion, then drive south through hills and tea plantations to Nyungwe Forest National Park, about four to five hours.
Day 2
After the park briefing, trek into the forest to find chimpanzees. After lunch, cross the suspended canopy walkway above the treetops.
Day 3
A long scenic drive of about six to seven hours north along Lake Kivu to your lodge near Volcanoes National Park.
Day 4
Briefing at Kinigi, then a trek to your gorilla family and one hour with them. Rest at the lodge in the afternoon.
Day 5
Drive back to Kigali for your flight or onward trip.

Frequently asked questions
How long are the drives?
About four to five hours from Kigali to Nyungwe and six to seven hours from Nyungwe to Volcanoes. We schedule stops for photographs and meals.
Is the canopy walk suitable for everyone?
It crosses a high suspended walkway, so it is not suited to anyone with a serious fear of heights.
Is the gorilla permit included?
Yes. We buy your permit for your chosen date once we have confirmed it with the park.
Can the dates and lodges be changed?
Yes. Every trip is a starting point, and we adapt it to your dates, group and comfort level.
