Wear
- Waterproof hiking boots with good grip, already broken in.
- Long trousers in muted greens, browns or khaki, tucked into socks or gaiters.
- A long-sleeved shirt and a light fleece for cold mornings.
- Gardening or leather gloves for gripping vines and nettles.
Carry
- A light waterproof jacket or poncho.
- A small day pack with at least one litre of water and snacks.
- A camera with no flash, and a spare battery.
- Insect repellent and sun protection.
Leave behind
- Bright colours, strong perfume and flash photography.
- Food to eat near the gorillas. Eating in their presence is not allowed.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a porter?
Not required, but we recommend one. Porters carry your pack, steady you on slopes and support local families.
Can I wear jeans?
You can, but they stay wet and heavy. Quick-dry trekking trousers are more comfortable.
